We are looking for a diligent oral surgery dental assistant to support our oral surgeon before, during, and after each oral surgery procedure. Your responsibilities will include taking X-rays, preparing surgical equipment, and tending to patients. You will also be required to monitor inventory levels and replenish our dental supplies, as needed.
To be successful as an oral surgery assistant, you should be highly organized and attentive to patients' needs. An outstanding oral surgery assistant should have an excellent understanding of oral surgery procedures and exceptional hand-eye coordination.
Role and Responsibilities
The Surgical Dental Assistant will help surgeons by performing duties intraoperatively such as handing instruments, suctioning, and completing documentation. As well as, assisting in follow-ups and consultations.
- Performs preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate patient care
- Verifies the identity of patients and operative sites
- Discusses with surgeon the nature of the surgical procedure including operative consent and methods of operative exposure
- Monitors and maintains aseptic technique throughout procedures
- Maintains an unobstructed operative field using surgical retractors, sponges and suctioning and irrigating equipment
- Assisting the surgeon with all chairside procedures including operatory setup, anesthesia administration, and cleanup
- Determines availability of necessary equipment and supplies for operative procedures
- Obtains and inspects sterile and non-sterile surgical equipment, supplies and instruments
- Operates sterilization devices
- Monitors patient intraoperative status
- Obtaining dental radiographs and dental imagines
- Complete patient clinical narratives and treatment letters
- The ability to provide excellent patient care, even under stressful circumstances at all times.
- Consistent professionalism in appearance and attitude.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- At Least one year of related experience preferred but not required
- Registered or Certified dental assistant preferred
- BLS certification required
- Radiology certification preferred
