Why Oral Surgery
When Dr. Eisenberg first started Dental School, she was interested in General Dentistry but also very interested in specializing since her father was an Endodontist. She grew up spending time in his office complex with several dental specialists, including Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. She was fascinated watching them start IVs, sedate patients, and then do surgery. The patients were so relaxed, calm, and thankful for their ability to provide sedation. During Christmas break of her first year in Dental School, she had the opportunity to scrub into an Orthognathic case at a local hospital, and when they down fractured the maxilla, she said, "That is the coolest thing I've ever seen." After the surgery, the oral surgeon called her dad and told him, "Sorry, but I'm 100% sure Nicole fell in love with Oral Surgery and won't be doing Endodontics." That oral surgeon was absolutely correct. To this day, office sedation and orthognathics are still her favorite procedures of the specialty.
